‘Benedict Men' and 'Legacy' to Premiere on VICTORYROAD+

By Mike Basone, CEO of VICTORYROAD Studios

There are certain projects that stay with you. Not just because you build them, but because in some ways, they help build you.

I'm incredibly proud to share that VICTORYROAD+ has fully acquired the rights to two series that were a major part of my professional journey: Benedict Men, executive produced by Steph Curry;

and Legacy: In the Shadow of Greatness, featuring Dwyane and Zaire Wade, Evander, Evan, and Elijah Holyfield, and Randall and Vashti Cunningham.

These were two defining projects in my career at Whistle and NEO Studios. I created, developed, and executive produced Benedict Men, and I created, developed, executive produced, and showran Legacy. Both series reflect the kind of premium, emotional, story-driven sports content I've always believed in.

Benedict Men was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and a Realscreen Award. Legacy was nominated for a BANFF Rockie Award. These were premium productions that originally sold to Quibi and Discovery+—projects our partners believed in, supported, and that performed well when they premiered.

These were shows I believed in deeply. They connected. They had real value. And yet, like so many meaningful projects from the COVID era, they got lost in the churn of an industry in transition and never got the long-term home they deserved.

In many ways, that was part of the reason I built VICTORYROAD+—to create a home for stories like these that never got their due.

From the beginning, the mission has been clear: build a true home for premium sports storytelling. A platform for stories that matter, that endure the test of time, that deserve more than getting buried in an algorithm or lost in a corporate content shuffle.

So bringing these two series home feels right.

Michael Newton and I have re-edited Benedict Men into a three-part long-form series and expanded Legacy from six episodes to seven. Benedict Men is now available to the VICTORYROAD+ audience, and Legacy will drop in the coming weeks. I couldn't be more excited to share them with you.

This is bigger than just adding two titles to a platform.

It's about reclaiming two series that meant a great deal to me and helped shape the filmmaker I've become. It's about giving them the home they should have had all along. And it's about continuing to build VICTORYROAD+ into a destination for bold, premium sports storytelling that actually lasts.

And this is just the beginning.
